Decide

Spirit has been encouraging me for a couple of weeks now to share with you some insights about our power to make decisions. Many of you have likely had a rough couple of months to start off this year, months presenting many challenges to face, more releasing to do, and more lessons to learn. If that has been your experience, I am with you! If your start to the year has been “smooth sailing”, good for you! You have likely conquered some of your lessons quickly. The first two months of the year have presented us with opportunities to stand in our power, increase our confidence in our intuition, and become curious about the obstacles that we face, finding a way to do things differently to overcome them. How have you fared with those challenges? As we move into March Spirit has told us that we may be confronted with thoughts and fears that make us feel trapped in a negative situation, and a lack of confidence that has us feeling helpless in moving forward in our lives. However, as always with Spirit, the solution to overcoming these challenges is simple. All we have to do is decide…

Stewards of Our Own Ship

Spirit came in today with a strong phrase to remind us of our power – we are “the stewards of our own  ship.” They are reminding us that we have total control of how we think, feel, and act. No one has the power to make decisions for you unless you have given them that power. I know there are likely many times a week where it does not feel like you are in control. For starters, the day-to-day business of our lives combined with the constant bombardment from the conventional and social media on us and those around us, can have us going on “automatic pilot” and just following the “mob mentality.” We find the fear and judgement created by the ego is soon running our lives. It clouds our decision making and we may act in ways that we later regret or we may miss acting on opportunities that would serve us well.

Spirit reminds us that as Divine beings we are co-creators of our reality. So those undesirable thoughts and feelings are creating the very reality that we struggle to cope with. The first step to turning this around is to remember who we are. We are powerful beings of light who have chosen to experience living in a material world. BUT that does not mean we need to live in a constant cesspool of negativity. We are solely responsible for ourselves and how we navigate this life. We are not responsible for others and likewise, others are not responsible for us. We are stewards of our own ship, and we can make changes in our lives simply by deciding to do so.

Choose Your Thoughts Wisely

Amidst the constant bombardment from our external world regarding what we should think, feel, and do, it may seem difficult to reconnect with our innermost thoughts, feelings and desires for action that are aligned with our true selves. When we do stop long enough to examine what we really think about something, we may not trust our own ideas or thoughts or may be afraid to share them in case they create opposition or isolation for us. That fear has us feeling trapped or stuck in that perception that we will meet opposition. Spirit encourages us to see that trap as just an illusion. If we feel stuck or hit a barrier, Spirit is saying “take the blindfold off and consider the situation from another perspective.” We can choose to see a different perspective, to be open to a different way of thinking about something. Can’t find a different perspective? Reach out to others or to Spirit for help. We do not have to adopt the thoughts and feelings “put upon us” by others. We have free will to choose to think of and see things differently. We can decide to take a different perspective that aligns more with our true self, one that “feels right.”

Becoming Heart Centred

If you feel overrun by the ego, if you struggle to change those negative thoughts and fears about how things are going in your life and the world around you, if you can’t find a different perspective, Spirit’s suggestion for you is to move into your heart. If those negative thoughts are creating feelings of anxiety, fear, anger, frustration, hopelessness, etc. Spirit is giving you a way to block the creation of those feelings. Spirit reminds you that you can decide to “bypass the ego” and relate to the world around you directly from your heart, to experience your world from a place of love, compassion, and gratitude. Now, you may ask, “how the heck do you do that!” If you have already been working on raising your vibration by connecting with your heart through meditation, or sound therapy, or some other modality, you are on your way to relating to your world from a place of positivity. You are in command of your ship. If you are searching for a way to connect with your heart and become more heart centred you may be interested in learning about heart-brain coherence from the HeartMath Institute, an organization I have mentioned in previous newsletters. Set Yourself Free

When we know and feel that we have control over our thoughts and feelings our actions can be in our best interest. The more our thoughts and feelings are aligned with our truth, the more our actions will bring us joy and will move us forward on our spiritual path. When you think about it, we make hundreds of small decisions every day that can move us forward, stop us in our tracks, or have us reverse course. Our gift of free will from Source is a tremendous power. However, we don’t fully capitalize on that gift when we make decisions that default to the perceived social norm, or the will of others, or the fears of the ego.

Spirit is asking us to exercise our personal sovereignty, to make decisions about our lives that lead us to a place of joy, personal peace, and growth. We make daily decisions about our personal health and how we treat our body when we decide what to eat, how much to drink or exercise, when to seek medical help, what medical advice to follow, what risks to our safety to avoid or when to take precautions, etc. For example, when we tune into our intuition and decide to listen to our body, we will learn what we should eat for breakfast as much as we will be able to decide what medical advice to follow, when to perhaps get a second opinion, or when to simply follow our own intuitive voice. We make decisions about the environment we live in – what temperature to keep the room at, whether to wear a seatbelt in a vehicle, what footwear to use on a snowy day, what route we travel to work, whether we listen to the morning news or take time to meditate, etc., etc. With every decision you have free will to choose what best suits you.

We also make decisions about our relationships. We can decide who we want to interact with be they family, friends, colleagues, professionals, or strangers. Some relationships you may say you cannot escape interacting with that person, for example a boss at work. However, if you look for another perspective you do have a choice. You can decide to change jobs. We can also decide how we want to interact with those in the relationships we still choose to participate in. For example, lately I found myself communicating with a group of people about a situation I found myself “in charge of”. I started to let them know about the situation and what was happening because I felt obligated to inform them due to their potential involvement with the situation. However, when they started interacting negatively amongst themselves, I found myself simply withdrawing from the group. It struck me so clearly that I had a choice. I could decide to stay and try to mediate the conflict, or I could simply leave the situation and not get pulled into the negativity. I remembered that I was not responsible for them. When I made the decision to leave the situation it was immensely freeing, so I knew it was a decision made in my best interest!

We can also decide moment to moment what emotions we want to engage in. Lately more and more people that I have been connecting with are consciously deciding not to engage in negative, low vibrational emotions despite the challenges different political scenarios are presenting to us. Instead, they are deciding to focus on being in their heart and approaching others in their immediate environment with love and compassion. They are choosing love over fear and we can see the ripple effect from that. Their days progress smoothly. They have the clarity to see the opportunities for learning that specific challenges present.

Spirit also encourages us to consciously decide how we want to spend our time. Do we decide to spend it in service to others, in doing our inner spiritual work, in distracting or even dreaded activities, in routines that we move through almost “automatically” without much thought, or do we spend our time in activities that bring us joy? When we decide to free ourselves and act in a way that brings us joy, we are more aligned with our spiritual purpose. That joy has us shining our light brighter and we can impact others in a positive way. We can also decide how or if we want to use our gifts. Everyone on the planet is gifted. Some decide to explore and reawaken those gifts, some decide to avoid them. Those awake to their gifts can then decide how they want to use them.

Decide

So, in summary, Spirit’s message today is “Decide.” Remember that you have the power and

the free will to decide. Decide what is really important to you, what brings you joy and follow through with that decision. Decide where you want your thoughts to go and what you will pay attention to. Decide how you want to feel about something or someone. Decide what actions you will take day in and day out in support of yourself and others. Decide about aligning with your true self. Decide on where you want to spend your time and energy. Spirit wants you to know that once you start deciding for you, you will begin to find personal peace. You will be free from responsibility and obligation. So, in this month of March, look for the perspective that will hep you decide on what leads to your highest joy. Take your power back and be confident in your decisions. See every situation where you have the free will to decide what is best for you. Trust your intuition and believe in yourself to make the decisions in your best interest. After all, you are the steward of your ship, the master of your destiny.

Sending you love and light,

Marilyn
